In order to better understand the rivalry between Morgan and Ripley, a look into their past is essential. Firstly, it is important to note that the two were actually a tag team together a couple of years back. After failing to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, Ripley turned on Morgan and shortly afterward, she joined The Judgment Day. They briefly feuded for a little bit, but their feud really began to pick up when Ripley injured Morgan in 2023. She cost Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles after injuring both of them.

During the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble, Morgan returned to WWE and had her sights set on taking the Women’s World Title from then champion, Ripley. She was embarking on her “Revenge Tour”, set to take away everything that Ripley held close to her. However, this did not really build steam until after WrestleMania 40. Following a successful defense against Becky Lynch, Ripley was attacked backstage by Morgan. This resulted in Ripley being injured and having to vacate her Women’s World Championship. Stage one of the Revenge Tour was complete.
After Lynch won the vacant title in a battle royal, Morgan set her sights on winning it, and at King and Queen of the Ring, Morgan, with some accidental help from a certain someone, successfully defeated Lynch and won the championship. Stage two was complete. However, there was something, or rather someone, that Morgan also wanted to take away from Ripley while she was injured. And that is what made this feud far more personal than anything had before. Morgan wanted to take “Dirty” Dom Mysterio away from Ripley and have him all to herself, and over the next few weeks, that is what she did.

Over the course of the last few months, Morgan was doing everything possible to get Mysterio to fall for her. She was sending him pictures. She left him her hotel room key. She was buying things for The Judgment Day. She got them a World Tag Team Championship match. Morgan also got very physical with Mysterio, even giving him a kiss. It all came to a head when Morgan and Mysterio were set to compete in a tag team match against the LWO. Although they got the win, Morgan ended up running away that night. “Mami” was back in WWE and had her sights set on destroying Morgan. She was also angry with Mysterio.
After a couple of weeks of awkwardness, Ripley and Mysterio finally reconciled when the latter told Morgan off on RAW. He said to Morgan, “I hate you!” On camera, it seemed like Mysterio and Ripley were all good once again. Morgan then left RAW in tears, upset that Mysterio chose Ripley over her. And to solidify it, Ripley licked and kissed Mysterio.
On the SummerSlam go home show episode of RAW, Morgan exacted a little revenge by destroying The Judgment Day's clubhouse. Infuriated and hurt, Morgan then delivered an intense promo where she burned images of Mysterio. She then promised to make their lives a "living hell." Ripley later responded that night saying:
"Liv Morgan. You want to burn and break things that don’t belong to you. You so badly want to be the victim in your little revenge tour fantasy. That’s all it is, a fantasy. The reality is, this Saturday at SummerSlam, your little revenge tour, it ends. There’s no more running, there’s no more hiding, there’s no more manipulating. You thought I was brutal the last time I attacked your shoulder, but that’s what happens when I warned you multiple times to stay out of my business. Now, now you’ve not only taken three months of my career by injuring my shoulder, touché by the way, but you’ve taken my championship, you’ve tried to manipulate my family, my Latino Heat. You so badly want me to be the demon in your little fantasy dream. But at SummerSlam, it’s time I get my revenge." (h/t WrestlingHeadlines)

One cannot help but wonder if there is something deeper going on beneath the surface. As it’s been seen in Mysterio’s own history, he has turned on people in WWE before. He turned on his father in the past, largely thanks to the sway of Ripley. What are the odds that he does this again due to Morgan’s sway? There are a lot of questions going into SummerSlam. What role will Mysterio play in the World Title match between Morgan and Ripley? Where will the rest of The Judgment Day fall if something goes wrong? While there was an answer seemingly given to fans, there are more questions than answers going into SummerSlam on August 3.
